Current Desmo valve retention is maintained through the use of hardened steel half-ring.
This use of a round peg in a square hole results in a half-ring that slowly collapses over time and required frequent valve adjustments as often as every 4,000miles (6,000 Km) - (See Technical Specs) to compensate for the valve groove and half-ring deformation and resulting excess clearance on return shims.
